Virtual Conference

NZRC 2020 Virtual Conference

The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation have confirmed that the conference will be held live at Te Papa in Wellington on 5-6 November!

Although nothing beats an in-person conference, the Foundation have also confirmed that the virtual conference option using the Whova app will also go ahead for those unable to attend the physical event in Wellington.

The virtual conference will be made available on the Whova app for all delegates. The app is available for download and will also be used as a key communication channel for both in-person and virtual events.

What does this mean for in-person event delegates?

Not only will you be able to view the presentations at the in-person event on the 5-6 November in Wellington, you’ll also get access to all of the presentations on the Whova app for 6 months following the event.

Downloading the app prior to the event will also mean that you’ll receive event updates, upcoming presentations, exhibitor profiles and more.

Planning on completing the virtual conference only and not attending in person?

If you cannot attend the in-person conference on 5-6 November at Te Papa, and would like to attend the conference virtually, please email as soon as possible. This is important as it will determine catering numbers at the event.

Make sure you download the Whova app as this is how you’ll access the virtual conference.

How to download and use the Whova App

The app is available for download now, and will enable you to:

  • View all conference content including speaker and sponsor/exhibitor profiles, the programme, and receive event updates.

  • View the full virtual conference including speaker presentations and Q&A feature.

  • Message other attendees or sponsors/exhibitors.

How to download the Whova app:

  • The Whova app is free and available for download on both Apple and Android.

  • Download the Whova app and sign-up using the same email address that you’ve registered for the conference with. Once signed up, you should be taken directly to the NZ Respiratory Conference 2020 event.

  • Already used Whova in the past? Double-check that it’s installed on your phone, and log in using your existing account email and password – you should see the NZ Respiratory Conference 2020 event

How to use the Whova app to get the most out of the in-person conference and the virtual conference:

Can I view the speaker presentations?

Yes, throughout the conference on 5-6 November all the speaker presentations will be published for viewing on the app – these will be loaded on the app immediately following the in-person presentation at the conference. These will remain live on the app for 6 months following the event.

Do I still get CME points by completing the virtual conference in the Whova app?

You are able to qualify for CME credits even if you only complete the virtual conference – all speaker presentations must be viewed by Monday 30 November to be recognised by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) for CME credits. CME certificates for virtual delegates will be emailed after Monday 30 November. For in-person event delegates, certificates will be emailed following the in-person conference.

How do I network within the app?

The Whova has substantial networking opportunities – many other delegates will also already be familiar with the app from other medical conferences in New Zealand. As this conference is being held both in-person in Wellington and virtually for those who can’t attend in person, it’s important that we have an app that not only delivers the presentation content, but also allows and encourages a community atmosphere amongst virtual attendees.

The networking opportunities include:

  • Direct message – you can reach out to delegates, speakers, and exhibitors within the app.

  • Discussion topics / Q&A feature – there is a section within the app called ‘Community’. This area of the app holds all of the topics that are being discussed, and forums for each session. You can follow a topic of interest and include your own comments or questions. Questions on presentation forums asked will be replied to by speakers within 72 hours.

Can I enter giveaways, raffles etc within the app?

Yes, you can enter giveaways etc that sponsors/exhibitors are hosting.

How do discussions work within the ‘Community’ section in the app?

You can take part in any discussion by simply replying/posting your own comments or questions to the discussion. You can also create your own discussion topics directly in the Community section of the app. All delegates can see all discussion topics. Questions for speakers will be answered within 72 hours.
